FAQ

When is the best time to plant flowers?

Spring is the best season to plant flowers. It is when the temperatures are warmer and the soil is still moist. Planting flowers should be done after the first frost if you live in a cold climate. The ideal temperature for indoor plants is around 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Which seeds should I start indoors and which ones should I avoid?

Tomato seeds are the best choice for starting indoors. Tomatoes produce year-round fruit and are easy to plant. If you are growing tomatoes in pots, take care when you transplant them to the ground. Planting too soon can cause soil to dry out and root rot. Plant diseases like bacterial disease can quickly kill plants.

Can I grow fruit trees inside pots?

Yes! Fruit trees can be grown in pots if you're short on space. You should make sure that your pot has drainage holes to keep excess moisture from rotting the tree. The pot should be deep enough to hold the rootball. This will protect the tree from being stressed.

How do you prepare soil for a vegetable gardening?

Preparing soil for a vegetable garden is easy. First, you should remove all weeds around the area where you want to plant vegetables. You can then add organic matter, such as composted cow manure, leaves and grass clippings. Water well, and wait for the plants to sprout.

Is there enough space in my backyard to grow a vegetable garden.

It's possible to wonder if you will have enough space for a vegetable or fruit garden if your current one is not available. The answer is yes. A vegetable garden doesn't take up much space at all. It only takes some planning. For example, you can build raised beds just 6 inches high. Or, you could use containers instead of raised beds. You'll still be able to get plenty of produce in any way.

What is the difference between hydroponic gardening and aquaponic gardening?

Hydroponic gardening uses nutrients-rich water to feed plants. Aquaponics involves the use of fish tanks in combination with plants to create an eco-system that can self-sufficient. You can have your farm right at your house!

What vegetables are good to grow together and what are the best?

The combination of tomatoes and peppers is great because they love the same temperatures and soil conditions. They complement each other well since tomatoes need heat to ripen while peppers require cooler temperatures for optimal flavor. To grow them together, you can start seeds indoors around six weeks before planting. After the weather has warmed up, you can transplant the pepper plants and tomatoes outside.

How To

Organic fertilizers for garden use

Organic fertilizers include manure (compost), fish emulsions, seaweed extracts, blood meal, and compost. The term "organic" refers to using non-synthetic materials in their production. Synthetic fertilizers can be used in industrial processes. They are often used in agriculture since they provide nutrients to plants efficiently and quickly, without the need of complicated preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers pose a risk to the environment and our health. Synthetic fertilizers require large amounts of energy as well as water to be produced. Due to runoff, synthetic fertilizers can pollute both groundwater as well as surface waters. This pollution can be harmful for both wildlife and humans.

There are several kinds of organic fertilisers:

* Manure - produced when livestock eat food containing nitrogen (a plant nutrient). It's made of bacteria and enzymes which break down the waste to simple compounds that can be taken by plants.

* Compost: A mixture of animal manure, grass clippings (decomposing leaves), vegetable scraps (vegetable scraps) and grass clippings (grass clippings). It is high in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium as well as calcium, magnesium, sulfur. It's porous so it is able to retain moisture well, and slowly releases nutrients.

* Fish Emulsion: A liquid product derived primarily from fish oil. It dissolves fats and oils in a similar way to soap. It contains trace elements and phosphorous as well as nitrogen and nitrogen.

* Seaweed Oil - A concentrated mixture of minerals taken from kelp, red and brown algae, as well as green algae. It is a good source of vitamins A, C, iron, and iodine.

* Guano, excrement taken from amphibians, bats, reptiles and seabirds. It contains nitrogen, sulfur, chloride and carbon.

* Blood Meal - the remains of slaughtered animals. It is high in protein, making it suitable for feeding poultry and other livestock. It also has trace minerals such as phosphorous, potassium, nitrogen and other nutrients.

Make organic fertilizer by combining equal parts manure, fish emulsion, and compost. Mix thoroughly. If you don’t possess all three ingredients you can substitute one for the other. If you have only access to the fish oil emulsion, then you can combine 1 part fish emulsion and 2 parts compost.

Use a shovel to evenly distribute the fertilizer over the soil. The fertilizer should be about 1/4 cup per square foot. You'll need to add fertilizer every two weeks until new growth appears.
