Also, sulfur can cause plants to become brittle in humid conditions. It is better to use a wettable form of sulfur when used on a large-scale. There are several types of sulfur available.

Biological tillage can be described as tillage done without the use of machines. It involves the use of organisms to aerate the soil. Aeration is the process of turning soil by large creatures. A third-part compost is added to the soil as a soil amendment, and the gardener should carefully turn the soil to minimize disturbance to the organisms. The gardener can then plant the vegetables. This procedure will be a lot easier than using a mechanical tillage.

Gardeners have many options for pest control that work with organic principles to keep soil clean. Small paper or plastic cups can be used to place young transplants in the soil. The same effect can be achieved using aluminum foil, six-inch lengths of sewer pipe or even small paper cups. Nylon bird mesh can also be used to protect young seedlings from birds. These methods are highly effective in controlling pests, weeds, and other undesirables.

FAQ

When to plant herbs?

When the soil temperature is 55°F, herbs should be planted in spring. To get the best results, they should be planted in full sun. Basil indoors can be grown in pots with potting mixture. They should be kept out of direct sunlight until they grow leaves. Once the plants begin to grow properly, you should move them into bright indirect lights. After three weeks, you can transplant them to individual pots and water them every day.

Is there enough space in my backyard to grow a vegetable garden.

It's possible to wonder if you will have enough space for a vegetable or fruit garden if your current one is not available. The answer to that question is yes. A vegetable garden doesn't take up much space at all. You just need to plan. Raised beds can be built as low as 6 inches. Containers can be used in place of raised beds. You'll still get lots of produce.

Do I need any special equipment?

Non, really. All you need to do is use a shovel, trowels, watering containers, and maybe even a rake.

What size space is required for a vegetable garden?

A good rule of thumb is that one square foot of soil requires 1/2 pound of seed. For example, if you have a 10 foot by 10 foot area (3 meters by three meters), 100 pounds of seeds will be required.

Can I grow fruit tree in a pot?

Yes! If space is limited, you can grow fruit trees in pots. Ensure your pot has drainage holes so excess moisture won't rot the tree. The pot should be deep enough to hold the rootball. This will stop the tree becoming stressed.

How To

Organic fertilizers for garden use

Organic fertilizers are made with natural substances like compost, manure, seaweed extract and blood meal. The term "organic" means that they are produced using non-synthetic material. Synthetic fertilizers can be used in industrial processes. Because they are quick and efficient, synthetic fertilizers are popular in agriculture. They don't require laborious preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers pose a risk to the environment and our health. These fertilizers also require high amounts of energy, water and time to make. Moreover, many synthetic fertilizers pollute groundwater and surface waters due to runoff. This is a problem for wildlife and humans alike.

There are many organic fertilizers available:

* Manure is produced when livestock eat nitrogen-rich foods (a plant nutrient). It contains bacteria, enzymes, and other substances that break down the waste into simple compounds which can be easily absorbed by plants.

* Compost: A mixture of animal manure, grass clippings (decomposing leaves), vegetable scraps (vegetable scraps) and grass clippings (grass clippings). It is rich for nitrogen, carbon, potassium and magnesium. It's porous so it is able to retain moisture well, and slowly releases nutrients.

* Fish Emulsion - a liquid product derived from fish oil. It is similar to soap in its ability to dissolve oils and fats. It has trace elements such as phosphorous, nitrogen and nitrate.

* Seaweed Oil - A concentrated mixture of minerals taken from kelp, red and brown algae, as well as green algae. It provides a source of vitamins A and C, iodine, and iron.

* Guano - Excreta from amphibians and seabirds. It contains nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfate, chloride, and carbon.

* Blood Meal - the remains of slaughtered animals. It contains protein, which makes it useful for feeding poultry and other animals. It also contains trace minerals, phosphorus and potassium.

Make organic fertilizer by combining equal parts manure, fish emulsion, and compost. Mix well. If you don't have all three ingredients, you can substitute them one for another. You can mix one part of the fish emulsion with two portions of compost if you don't have enough.

To apply the fertilizer, spread it evenly over the soil using a shovel or tiller. The fertilizer should be about 1/4 cup per square foot. You will need more fertilizer to see signs and growth every two weeks.
